William Eager
Art for Your Imagination

William Eager creates acrylic, mixed media, photography and digital artwork that awakens your imagination.

Based in Santa Fe, New Mexico, my abstract and contemporary artwork is connected to my love of nature.  The exotic dance of life often involves competition and collaboration between plants as they weave themselves together in a dazzling display of chaotic entanglement.  What we see above ground is often a mirror of the beautiful entanglement and evolution that occurs unseen, below the soil, which I try to capture in my “Roots Run Deep” series.  This series is also a metaphor for our own personal biography which stretches back in time through our ancestral roots.  Biomorphic paintings such as Chili Pepper and Expansion share the shapes and colors which attract pollinators.

The Animal Instinct surrealistic digital art series features a variety of animals engaging in a variety of humanistic activities ranging from a Polar Bear preparing pancakes to a Cow playing basketball on the moon.   I try to connect each animal with an activity that mirrors their natural behaviors and instincts ... such as a Goose in a laundry mat where exploding washing machines spill out ducks.  Each image has been carefully crafted using a variety of digital tools and is printed on archival, fine art paper with a limited, signed edition of only 5 prints.

For several  years I have also been intrigued by graffiti, petroglyphs and pictographs… especially images discovered on stones, walls and buildings.  Some have existed for thousands of years.... others a few weeks.  These images, words, messages, scratches and drawings pile up on each other over time.  Like layers of shellac that represent ideas and feelings of people who live today … and others who lived ages ago when a different sense of society and relationships between man and nature existed.  Like an archeologist who uncovers mysteries about society as they dig back through a site; my art often layers one message on top of another.  I sincerely hope you enjoy the art work and that it triggers your imagination to fly.

I share two Photographic Series.  One is Solarizations, a series of images that captures people in daily life, but adds a layer of mystery with in-darkroom solarization.  A second Photographic Series is called “Completely Blurred.”Since the invention of photography, one of the fundamental tenets of a “good”image has been perfect focus.  I believe intentional blur introducessomething just as powerful - emotion.  Blurtransforms the way we experience an image. It heightens a sense of movement,as seen in Walking at Rush Hour and Man and Woman Dancing, where motion becomes  tangible. It also conveys anonymity—the feeling of being unseen, orperhaps not wanting to be seen—captured in Sitting with Face in Hands andWalking at Night.  This series alsochallenges the idea that portraits must alwaysbe sharply focused. By embracing blur, the subject remains enigmatic, both tothe viewer and to others who are in the image. In doing so, the personality ofthe individual isn’t erased but takes on a new, mysterious power.
